IRAQ: Iraqi Army soldiers discover multiple weapons caches in
/noticias.info/ BAGHDAD – Iraqi Army soldiers seized several weapons caches in the Sadr City District of Baghdad June 19.
At approximately 6 a.m., soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 1st Iraq Army Division, seized a cache containing four rocket propelled grenades, an 82 mm round, a mortar aiming device, two RPG-7 propellants, a RPG-7 scope, a rifle, a flare gun and six full AK-47 magazines.
At the same time in a separate find, soldiers with the 34th Bde., 9th IA Div., seized a Katusha rocket and four propellants; an RPG propellant charge, blasting caps, approximately two pounds of shrapnel and a hand grenade.
At approximately 6:30 p.m., soldiers from 3rd Bde., 1st IA Div., discovered a cache consisting of 10 RPG rounds, a block of C4, a bazooka rocket and 50 meters of wire.
Soldiers with the 38th Bde., 10th IA Div., found a weapons cache at approximately 8 a.m. consisting of 10 AK-47 rifles, a day vision scope, a rifle, a hand grenade and three sets of body armor.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., soldiers with the 3rd Bde., 1st IA Div., seized an RPG launcher and an AK-47 rifle.
At the same time, soldiers with the 38th Bde., 10th IA Div., seized a 120 mm mortar round, three grenades and seven RPG propellants.
Iraqi Army soldiers with the same unit uncovered another munitions cache at approximately 9 a.m. containing 12 RPG rockets, a Katusha rocket, four RPG launchers, 42 RPG rounds, eight 82 mm mortar rounds, an anti-tank mine, 100 mortar propellants, four 60 mm mortar rounds, seven grenades, a day sight optic, six propellant charges, a 60 mm bipod, eight 82 mm mortar cap charges, five grenade blasting charges, ten exploder primers, five 120 mm propellant charges and approximately 250 pounds of TNT explosive.
“Our Soldiers, along with their Iraqi Security Forces counterparts, continue to diligently scour the area to remove these weapons from the streets of Baghdad,” said Lt. Col.
