BEIJING 2008:Harbin submits candidature files to IOC
/noticias.info/ After approval by the State Council of China, the Chinese city of Harbin has submitted the candidature files to host the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday, June 19, according to the Beijing Municipal Sports Bureau.
On March 7, the IOC announced that Harbin was one of the candidate cities bidding to host the first Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 -- a new, international multi-sport youth competition. Innsbruck (Austria), Kuopio (Finland) and Lillehammer (Norway) have also made it to the shortlist of candidate cities.
According to the requirements of IOC, the bidding process for the 2012 Games are mainly in questionnaire format, made up of written papers, guarantee documents, audio and video files and read-only CD-ROM, covering 15 subjects and 99 issues in total.
Harbin, which staged the winter version of the Asian Games in 1996 and made an unsuccessful bid to hold the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, has completed all the required bid documents.
Reviewed by the State General Administration of Sport and the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), the related candidature files were approved for submission to the IOC on March 2. They were sent to the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland on June 18, and then signed and recognized by the IOC staff in charge.
The IOC decided to launch the Youth Olympic Games on July 5, 2007. It is for competitors aged 14 -18-years-old. The decision where to stage the games will be made by the IOC in December 2008. notas_de_prensa_archivo
