LONDON 2012:Local children dig into the Olympic Park past

Over 200 children from local schools and community groups are attending a week-long series of archaeology events to find out about the history of the Olympic Park.

/noticias.info/ The children will learn about how the area has transformed over thousands of years by examining some of the items found on the Park.

Archaeological work has unearthed four prehistoric skeletons buried in graves around an area of Iron Age settlement, a Roman coin, Roman river walls, Second World War gun emplacements and a complete 19th-century boat used for hunting wild fowl on the lower River Lea.

The archaeological activities for children and young people are part of the ‘discover’ programme launched by the Olympic Delivery Authority and the Museum of London earlier this year.

Along with these community events, the year-long ‘discover’ project will give local people an insight into the fascinating past of Park through talks and roadshows across the five Host Boroughs.
