European success in both the European Cup and the UEFA Cup has made PSV one of Holland’s most famous clubs along with Ajax.

The club, crowned Eredivisie champions for the fourth successive season in May, have a new manager in Huub Stevens, who has replaced caretaker boss Jan Wouters.

PSV played Everton’s Premier League counterparts Tottenham Hotspur in the second round of last season’s UEFA Cup and advanced after winning both legs of the tie.

Former Everton Academy graduate Michael Ball played for PSV for one and a half seasons but made only 12 appearances between 2005 and 2007 before leaving to join Manchester City.

Many famous players have turned out for PSV including Ruud Gullit, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ronaldo.

The club’s current captain is Belgium defender Timmy Simons, who has to date made over 80 appearances for PSV.

You may hear the club referred to as Boeren, the Dutch word for 'farmers' but in this case ‘peasants’. It is a reference to their provincial city origins. notas_de_prensa_archivo
