US ELECTIONS 08: BARACK OBAMA: Blog: Unite for Change: Ready to Work for Change

/noticias.info/ Florida is going to be a battleground state come November. And it’s a good thing that the residents of Tallahassee are supporting Barack and ready to work for change.

Rick, the Chair of the Leon County Democratic Executive Committee is hosting a Unite for Change event on Saturday to encourage his peers to get involved. He’s been disappointed with the current administration and wants to bring change to Washington. He’s using this Saturday to bring people in Tallahassee together.

Rick knows the importance of this election, and he is ready to win Tallahassee for Barack.

Like most Americans, Tallahasseans want to set our country back on course. We're tired of the sagging economy, the threat of home foreclosures, and $4 gas. As Florida's capital city, Tallahassee has a large number of state and municipal employees who understand that, in order to change government, you've got to stand up and get involved. We're standing up to take our country back, and by hosting a Unite for Change event, we're reaching out to more people and building the movement that will make it happen.

The Unite for Change events are doing a lot to get people more involved and to help give them the tools they need to elect Barack Obama. So many people are telling us that they've never volunteered for a candidate before. Since so many folks are getting involved for the first time, these Unite for Change events can offer new volunteers some guidance on how they can be the most effective in getting out the vote.

It's also a great way for neighbors to band together and plan how they can reach out to other folks within their community. Nothing is more effective in mobilizing voters than to have them contacted, face-to-face, by one of their neighbors or friends. The Unite for Change events will facilitate this type of voter outreach.

The important thing that we've been telling people here is that it's NOT a competition among events! Here in Tallahassee we have a couple of large Unite for Change meetings and several smaller ones. There shouldn't be any attempt to consolidate these meetings, but instead to have as many as possible -- in every neighborhood, college dormitory, and retirement home. The more meetings we have, the more effectively we can engage people in their own communities!


With Unite for Change events happening in all 50 states, be sure to attend one in your community. It’s a great way to meet with fellow supporters, introduce yourself to new people and make plans to take action and win your city for Barack in November. notas_de_prensa_archivo
