US ELECTIONS 08: BARACK OBAMA: Blog: Unite for Change: "For A Better America"
/noticias.info/ ost people know Kal Penn from his hit TV show “House.” But for college students across the country, he’s been one of the faces of the Obama campaign, talking to them about the potential that they have to change the country.
Kal has been a volunteer for the campaign since October of last year. He’s visited 19 states; going on college tours, phone banking, and in the case of Iowa, living there for almost two months.
And in addition to what he’s done in the past, Kal will join the thousands of Americans this Saturday by hosting his own Unite for Change event.
I saw it on the website and thought it would be a great way to reach out to some of my friends right here in my own neighborhood. There have been statewide house parties and Unity events during the primary, but what's going to take place on Saturday is unprecedented. People from all walks of life, all over the country are going to be holding Unite for Change events - I thought it'd be great to have one here.
We need to come together in unity for the woman I met in northern Iowa, who, with tears streaming down her face, explained that she can't pay off her student loans on a teaching salary. We need to come together in unity for the brave men and women in our military, for the single mother working two jobs just to make ends meat, for the college student I met in North Carolina who takes care of his ailing father. We need to come together in unity for a better America for all of us.
I hope that these national events will inspire and include even more people to join this campaign for change. Over the last 8 years, we have seen gas prices jump to almost $5 a gallon, we have friends who are fighting in a war, our friends can't afford college or health insurance, and the environment is in dire need of repair. We can't afford another 4 years of failed policies under John McCain, and we can't afford to idly sit by and do nothing. This weekend, we'll see Americans from all walks of life: democrats, republicans, and Independents (like me) join together to support Barack Obama in leading our country in the right direction.
Unite for Change is only two days away. Two days until thousands of supporters, old and new, get together to plan a way to end divisive politics in Washington. Sign up for an event and join others to bring change to Washington. notas_de_prensa_archivo
