LIVERPOOL FC: ALONSO: WE CAN BEAT GERMANY

Xabi Alonso could not hide his delight after helping Spain reach the final of Euro 2008 with a crushing win over Russia in Vienna.

/noticias.info/ The Reds midfielder, who made his second appearance of the tournament as a second-half substitute, felt his side were worthy 3-0 winners over the Russians and believes Luis Aragones' men will now head into Sunday's final with Germany brimming with confidence.

"We have to be (confident) because we feel like we can beat anyone," he said.

"Hopefully we will be able to beat Germany this time.

"We will have to careful of the attacking players in Podolski, Schweinsteiger and Klose because they have a killer instinct and if we control them well we know we will have possession, create chances and score goals."

After a keenly contested first-half Spain got the all-important breakthrough on 50 minutes when Xavi converted Andres Iniesta's cross-shot.

It paved the way for further goals from substitute Daniel Guiza and David Silva to wrap up victory and Alonso admits the opening goal was the key to such a comfortable semi-final triumph.

"You have to analyse the game," he said.

"In the first-half it was tight with both teams controlling the game and we tried not to make mistakes.

"But in the second-half after we scored the first goal and we knew that it would be much easier from then on. We kept the ball, had lots of possession and took advantage of our chances to score the second and third. We showed a lot of maturity in the second-half.

"The win means a lot. All the supporters, the players and the staff have great faith in us. We have completed a great Euro so far and now we have to continue it by giving 100 per cent in the last game against Germany which is going to be tough.

"We haven't been affected by the expectation so far. At the moment we have done a great Euro and we want to continue it. The lads are in a great mood right now." notas_de_prensa_archivo
