LIVERPOOL FC: LFC'S GREATEST PL GAMES: WATCH 52 NOW
/noticias.info/ Liverpool team: Reina, Finnan, Riise, Carragher, Hyypia, Kewell (Warnock 87), Alonso, Sissoko, Gerrard, Crouch (Morientes 90), Garcia. Subs: Dudek, Fowler, Kromkamp.
Liverpool recorded a league double over Everton in a fiery Anfield derby which saw Steven Gerrard red carded in the first half.
Gerrard and Everton's James Beattie wore special 08 shirts to commemorate the city of Liverpool being awarded Capital of Culture for 2008.
However, in a game that saw referee Phil Dowd book 11 players, Gerrard received his marching orders for a mistimed tackle on Kevin Kilbane. The first booking was harsh to say the least as it was for allegedly kicking the ball away.
Despite Everton having a numerical advantage, Xabi Alonso took control of the game in midfield and inspired the Reds to a victory.
Phil Neville headed into his own net to give the Reds the lead on the stroke of half-time, then two minutes into the second half Luis Garcia made it 2-0 with a great finish at the Kop end.
Tim Cahill pulled a goal back for the Blues after 61 minutes but a glorious strike from Harry Kewell in the 84th minute made certain the derby bragging rights went Liverpool's way.
Everton also finished the game with 10 men after substitute Andy Van Der Meyde was shown his marching orders after a foul on Alonso.
