LIVERPOOL FC: GULACSI HAILS REINA INFLUENCE
Peter Gulacsi has paid tribute to the influence of Pepe Reina and hailed the Spanish stopper as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
/noticias.info/ The Hungarian youngster, who played a key role in helping the Reserves claim the national title, believes the Reds' current number one has all the attributes a top keeper needs and insists it is hard to find fault with the Spaniard.
"Sometimes I get to work with Pepe Reina and that's obviously very beneficial," Gulacsi told LFC Magazine.
"Even when I'm not training with him I just watch very closely what he does and, of course, I also watch him in matches.
"He's a fantastic goalkeeper - one of the best around - and the fact that he's still young means he should become even better.
"He's very quick for such a big man and is a very good decision maker.
"Distribution is another area where he excels. He doesn't operate like a normal goalkeeper, he's almost like an extra defender. He's got great feet and rarely ever just stands on his line without getting involved.
"All the young goalkeepers at the club are encouraged to play like him.
"Pepe's other strengths aren't as obvious. His concentration is excellent. A lot of the time he will have nothing to do for long periods of games but still produces excellent saves when called upon.
"Like every goalkeeper he makes mistakes but he quickly puts those out of his head. That's the sign of someone who is mentally very strong.
"If I can model my game on his then it should help me to improve a lot.
Gulacsi is currently vying with David Martin for a place in Gary Ablett's reserve team and is also behind Charles Itandje in the pecking order at Anfield.
But that doesn't stop him dreaming and he hopes that one day he will be good enough challenge Reina for a place in Rafael Benitez's starting line-up.
"It's a challenge, that's for sure," he said referring to the challenge of displacing Reina.
"All I can do is enjoy my football, continue to work hard and see what happens." notas_de_prensa_archivo
