UEFA ORGANISATION: FARE presents EURO report

/noticias.info/ The Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network is to present a report to the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body on incidents of racism it detected at UEFA EURO 2008™ in Austria and Switzerland.

Isolated incidents
The network reports that, overall, the tournament passed with isolated incidents, given the numbers of supporters attending the 31 matches from 7 to 29 June. All reports are being passed to UEFA and Euro 2008 SA. A list of illustrative incidents can be downloaded from here.

FARE monitors
FARE had monitors from 12 nationalities inside stadiums at each of the matches, in Fan Zones and in streets near stadiums, tasked with reporting back on racist conduct and other forms of discriminatory behaviour. FARE says that, in part, the incidents reflect greater vigilance, with increased levels of monitoring and more visible messages such as the Unite Against Racism programme, which included a FARE training guide for staff working at stadiums on how to identify and deal with racism and racist symbols.

Awareness campaign
Unite Against Racism is an awareness campaign run by the FARE network with UEFA's backing, as well as with the support of the professional players' union FIFPro. It incorporated various activities organised before and during UEFA EURO 2008™. The Unite Against Racism logo was displayed not only on the perimeter boards in the stadiums but also on the captains' armbands, the match tickets, the ball boys and girls' bibs as well as the stewards' bibs and the substitute players' bibs. The campaign has also included an advertising spot which has broadcast at every game – Different Languages, One Goal: No To Racism. notas_de_prensa_archivo
