BEIJING 2008:Exploring MPC
/noticias.info/ Making the Main Press Center (MPC) a convenient working place and home to media members covering the Olympic and Paralympic Games is the goal of organizers.
On the second floor of the MPC, scheduled to open next Tuesday, one month before the Olympics, major media organizations have already begun their fight to win the largest share of the audience, the People's Daily reports.
The MPC has two work rooms for 970 writers and 250 photographers. The writers can reference what they see on 34 large TV screens which broadcast every Olympic event.
The IOC has allocated 400 square meters of office space free of charge for each of four news agencies – AP, Reuters, AFC and Xinhua. However, AP has expanded its office to 700 square meters and Xinhua 616 square meters, the paper found.
Up for Indian food for lunch? Okay, here you go. A 5,000 square meter international dining hall has been set up at the first floor of the MPC, with food available 24 hours. There will be many kinds of food for Asian, European and American diners. A set meal costs 75 yuan, offering meat, vegetables, soup, rice and dessert.
Ninety percent of the 20,000 accredited journalists are from outside of China, and they will comment on whether or not the Beijing Olympics will be a success.
"We expect quite a number of journalists to be critical of our work, so we need to do an excellent job beforehand to avoid any unexpected problems later," said an official of the MPC. notas_de_prensa_archivo
