FORMULA 1: Celebrities flock to Silverstone to watch British race

/noticias.info/ Despite the wet weather, the British Grand Prix proved to be as popular as ever with celebrity Formula One fans. And with the promise of some exciting racing action proving a big draw, we caught up with some of the biggest VIPs at Silverstone on Sunday to find out how they were enjoying their Formula One experience…

She is a regular visitor to the Silverstone paddock and top model Jodie Kidd was not going to let a little rain stop her from attending this year's British race. “You know me, when Silverstone is on the agenda, I am here come rain or shine,” explained Kidd. “For an amateur racer, like I am, to come to the British Grand Prix is an absolute must. I have so many good friends here that I would never miss the chance to see them. This race - and the way Lewis Hamilton won it - was just mesmerizing! I can hardly remember when I last witnessed such an action-packed spectacle, and the fact a British driver took the trophy was just the icing on the cake. I’ll be certain to attend next year’s race!”

Another sworn Formula One aficionado is British chef Gordon Ramsay. “It’s an outdoor sport so you take the weather as it comes,” said Ramsay. “The British Grand Prix is such a must-see for me that complaining about the weather would be ridiculous. And what a race! Only the really cool survived! And as for Lewis, he has really outdone himself today. He made no mistakes; he drove a flawless race; and he demonstrated that he has the style of a champion.”

Gemma Garrett, who is the current holder of this year’s Miss Great Britain title, was a first timer at the British Grand Prix. “This is really incredible,” Garrett exclaimed when she saw the paddock. “Look at the motorhomes and the preciseness of the way the trucks are lined up. And the race was amazing! I’ve been told that it’s been quite a while since a British driver has won this race - and I come here and see Lewis storm to the top step of the podium! I cannot think of a more exciting way to spend a Sunday afternoon!”

Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, meanwhile, is no stranger to the fast lane. “Silverstone is my third race,” explained Tendulkar. “But this year everything is a little different. Force India’s Vijay Mallya is a very good friend of mine, so when he invited me to come here there was no question I wouldn’t be at the British Grand Prix. Vijay is wonderful for finally bringing Formula One to India. Cricket still might be the most popular sport, but thanks to men like Vijay the appetite of Indians to discover new sports has skyrocketed. His team has a huge fan base back home - and one of those fans is me. And as he never starts something unless he is confident that he can turn it into a success, I am expecting great things from Force India - even if it might not look that way right now. Give the man a little time and you will all be surprised.”

Norwegian golfer Suzann Pettersen, was also blown away by Formula One racing. “Of course I’ve watched it on TV,” said Pettersen. “But seeing it for real has been amazing. I have been in the BMW Sauber garage and could not believe what I saw. Garage is obviously the wrong word for it - it’s more like a mixture of a lab and a computer company, and you are left wondering why the guys are wearing overalls and helmets. And the paddock with all those fancy motorhomes! They are like moving palaces, and each somehow also represents the philosophy of the team. This must be some sort of tarmac heaven. I just hope that I will have the opportunity to come back some day. I really would like to learn more about this environment and the sportsmen who compete in it. One day is simply not enough to discover this unbelievable sport.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
