BEIJING 2008:Information release system for Beijing Olympics ready

/noticias.info/ The information release system for the Beijing Olympic Games will soon be available, following a recent examination procedure.

Comprising INFO2008, commentator information, results data input, Internet data input, copy and distribution, and central storage, the system will provide information services for the Olympic Family, accredited media and other clients during the Olympics.

A backbone of the information release system, INFO2008 provides IOC officials, athletes and officials from around the world as well as accredited media with Olympic Games results, Games news, athletes' biographies, medal standings, world records, competition schedules, transportation and weather through some 2,500 fixed INFO terminals or kiosks at competition venues, the Olympic Village and Media Village.

An added function of the INFO system is wireless access to facilitate accredited media and IOC officials in accessing the INFO system from Olympic venues or hotels.

About 2,000 CIS screens placed at venue commentator seats and around the International Broadcast Center will provide real-time information on competitions, medal standings and weather.

The system has passed four rounds of rigid testing by the Software Research Institute of the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, with the first round in April 2007 in which sixty-six errors were found, including some that could have affected the Olympic events. They were addressed before another round of testing in May and again in June of 2008. Users found seven problems in 114 scenarios and 1,092 cases.

The expert group held that the third-party tests have proven the system scientific and reliable, and that the tests were very important and necessary to ensure regular and sound operations for the Olympic Games. The tests also provided a precious legacy for future Olympics. notas_de_prensa_archivo
