Dietmar Hamann scored two fantastic goals as Liverpool edged out Manchester City in a five goal thriller at Anfield.

Goals from Michael Owen and a stunning volley from the German international had given the Reds a 2-0 lead but Joe Royle's side pulled it back to 2-2 thanks to efforts from former AC Milan star George Weah and a penalty from Kevin Horlock.

It was a game that had literally everything and Liverpool weren't to be denied when Hamann netted the winner eight minutes from time.
