EVERTON FC: LUMMY VISITS BLUES LEGEND
/noticias.info/ Everton coach Jimmy Lumsden has been to see 1960s legend Bobby Collins.
Bobby took Everton by storm when he joined the club in 1958 from Glasgow Celtic and his all-action style endeared him immediately to the faithful.
Sadly, Bobby is not in the best of health these days, suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, but Jimmy popped in to see him recently.
"I went to see him last week in Leeds and it's a real shame the way he is because I used to love talking to Bobby about the old times and all the great players he played with," he told evertonTV from the Toffees' Swiss training base..
"It's sad to him now but his wife is in fine fettle and she goes every day to see him. Bobby's in a nursing home but he's got Everton pictures on the wall in his room.
"He still looks physically well and he's not suffering."
The fact that the great man has the Everton images on his wall will bring smiles to the faces of the supporters who idolized him - and those who have only ever read about him - and Jimmy is emphatic when he speaks of Bobby's affection for The Toffees.
"He loved Everton," he said. "I know that for a fact from the times I used to talk to him. He didn't want to leave Everton but it was the manager's decision."
Bobby left Everton for Leeds United in 1962 and continued to flourish in Yorkshire. He was the Footballer of the Year in 1965 and it was at Elland Road that he first met the young Jimmy Lumsden.
"Bobby was a fantastic professional and he was always one of the fittest at the club. He was top-class and I think it was a big mistake by Everton to let him go."
Jimmy was speaking to evertonTV from the training pitch in Switzerland and when the conversation moved from a past player to the future crop, he was just as enthusiastic.
"I just said to the manager that the young boys have done well over here," he said.
"There can sometimes be a worry when some of the young lads step up and get involved in the ball work but these lads have done well and it will do them good." notas_de_prensa_archivo
