FORMULA 1: THEY SAID, THEY SAID…

/noticias.info/ Tiago MONTEIRO “It is a very special win with perfect timing. After we had a victory in Mexico I have had three very difficult events with no points.

This weekend was perfect, we had a good pace in the practice, it dived a bit in qualifying but we never gave up. I knew I had to be strong from the beginning, I didn’t do a very good start but I was second and pushed very hard to put pressure on Porteiro. When I passed him I knew that as long as my tyres lasted I had to push as much as I could. The final 5/6 laps my tyres were really struggling and I had to be careful and bring it home.”

Rickard RYDELL

“There were two things that were key to this weekend. One of which was qualifying as this is a really close championship and unless you can qualify well you are not there for the top eight places. The other key for me was the start and the SEAT is good on the rolling starts. Nicola (Larini) was very fast on the straight at the end of every lap and very good under braking into turn 1. So if he had been in front it would have been quite difficult to pass.”

Yvan MULLER

“It has been a very good weekend for me, especially after qualifying where I was far down on the grid. I did not expect two podiums and that's fantastic, and I have scored important points. It was a good clean fight with Andy Priaulx, first I overtook him and then had to keep him behind me, but it was a good, clean fight. Being close to Tarquini doesn't change anything in terms of plans for the championship; I will keep going and trying to score points the best I can. There is a long time left to go.”

Nicola LARINI

“The first corner incidents definitely cost me the win, I was struggling to stay closed in at the corner as I could not find the pace to get the line I wanted to. I tried to push really hard over the last few laps and just wasn't able to pass. I lost the race at the start, it was impossible to do better – I didn't make a mistake at the start, Rydell just went away like a rocket. To see him in front of me was very disappointing.”

Andy PRIAULX

“I'm not happy with the result. It's great for the team who worked exceptionally hard to give me a good car for the weekend. The corner speed from the car and the handling of the car is tremendous, but to bridge the gap to the others is going to be a big step as everyone can see. We have closed the gap to Tarquini but the performance is not good enough. There is still going to be a tough fight for me.”

Sergio HERNÁNDEZ

“Apart from the problem with the front bonnet in the first race it has been good. In the second race I tried to go lap by lap and then a mistake was made and I got through. The first race was much tougher, I was on pole position which is a hard place to start. When the engine bonnet flipped opened there was nothing I could do, so I thought I'd have to try and win the second race.”

Pierre-Yves CORTHALS

“I'm really pleased to win because I haven't be here for a while. I wasn't the best driver today, but maybe I was cleverer because there were a lot of crashes in the Independents' class. My car worked well in the race, but I did have problems with my tyres; anyway at the end I was the only one who was still on the track …” notas_de_prensa_archivo
