UEFA WOMENS UNDER 19: Meinert sets sights on Norway test

/noticias.info/ Germany coach Maren Meinert already has sights on a "tough game" against Norway on Wednesday after confirming their progress to the last four with a morale-boosting 7-0 triumph over Scotland. Another goal and they would have equalled their own UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship record margin of victory – 8-0 against Russia in 2003/04 –while Scotland manager Ritchie Wilson was left to wonder what would have happened had Desirée Schumann not denied Christie Murray with the scores goalless. Nevertheless, he believes his side and women's football in Scotland as a whole have a "bright future".

Scotland were not just any side but strong opponents – the result doesn't really reflect the game. We are happy that we scored seven goals, though, and that we have qualified for the semi-finals. Unlike the Sweden game, we found the net twice quickly, which helped build up further confidence among my players. At the beginning our 'keeper Desirée Schumann made a great save, it was really difficult. We fielded her again today, not because of impressions from training, but we deemed her style of play to suit with the Scottish game better.

Lisa Schwab scored the important first goal, but she can play much stronger than she did today. Football is not only about attacking, but also about defence. She was an important player today, but there is still room for improvement. We played a slightly different Norwegian team before the tournament, when we went there with our U20s. We know what we can expect. They play wide open and have very fast players; that's difficult for all the defences. It will be a tough game but we have to take it as it comes anyway.

We wanted to play for pride. We were prepared to play for not only individual pride but pride of the team and also national pride. What went wrong? A lack of concentration at times, unforced errors. Sadly it's been a disappointing part of the whole tournament, losing goals at key times when we're doing well in the game. We'll take lots of positives from this tournament. Having played three out of four good halves of football here and deserved more we can take a lot from it.

Maybe this was one step too far though. But if it wasn't for unforced errors it would have been a much closer scoreline. We had a shot at goal that the Germany keeper saved well and Germany go straight up the pitch and they score, which is difficult, psychologically. But the girls will bounce back.
