AJAX: Van Basten eyes championship

After the first training session of the new season, Marco van Basten held a press conference. ,,Everyone at Ajax hungers for success'', said the new Ajax boss. ,,We will do our utmost to make Ajax champions again.”
The primary goal is to win at the national level. But good results in Europe are of course also more than welcome. ,,We will see how far we can get in the UEFA Cup”, Van Basten said.

Van Basten held his first training session with Ajax 1 on Monday morning. The coach is happy with his team, but thinks some changes will come. ,,We are really pleased that we have been able to sign Sulemani and Cvitanich. And we hope that we can add at least one more defender. Preferably a Jaap Stam type.” Ajax want an experienced defender, but Van Basten admitted that there is also interest for youngt Brazilian Henrique Adriano Buss.

The new Ajax coach expects to further reduce his team. ,,We had thirty guys out there on the training pitch. I would prefer it if the group was reduced to about 24 players.” Klaas Jan Huntelaar is part of that group. ,,We expect him to stay with Ajax. There is no back-up plan for the position of striker.” Next to the two new players, Van Basten also praised a third 'acquisition'. ,,We are very happy that Danny Blind has come back. He is a real club man and knows exactly what's going on in the football world."

Van Basten got a warm reception from the fans when he entered the training pitch. ,,Of course that is nice. It feels really good to be back at Ajax.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
