UEFA UNDER 19: Hrubesch hails Germany discipline

/noticias.info/ Germany coach Horst Hrubesch pointed to his side's discipline as goals from Dennis Diekmeier, Savio Nsereko and Lars Bender earned a 3-0 win against Bulgaria and a place in the semi-finals of the UEFA European Under-19 Championship. Hungary coach Tibor Sisa was equally delighted as a 1-0 win against Spain sent his team into the last four along with Germany, while for the defeated Mihail Madanski and Ginés Meléndez, whose Spain side bow out having lost both their Group A games, there were only thoughts of what might have been. uefa.com collects the reaction.

GERMANY 3-0 BULGARIA
Horst Hrubesch, Germany coach
We totally deserved to win. We allowed Bulgaria no chances over the 90 minutes and were the clearly better team in each half. We could have had more goals because we missed some chances and didn't score enough. I had an eye on the Bulgarian attack because they had plenty of scoring opportunities against Hungary and that's why I'm happy we played with so much discipline. We closed the space down well and didn't give them any chances to score or to open up space – our discipline gave me the most pleasure. There was a danger that the players could get carried away with the win against Spain but they kept their feet on the ground and we saw that today.

Mihail Madanski, Bulgaria coach
We played against one of the best teams in the tournament, we expected Germany to be good and they were. We didn't play as well as we did in the first match against Hungary. Germany were the better side and that's why they won – they're a good team. I would expect them to get to the final. Germany are a very good team, their style of play and the way they played today were not a surprise to me. They have very good players all over the team, they play as a unit but we weren't a team today. I said before the tournament that this tournament is a good experience, both for me as a coach and for the players.

HUNGARY 1-0 SPAIN
Tibor Sisa, Hungary coach
I said we had a very good team and fantastic players and we've shown that. My players showed a lot of passion and we had great support from the crowd, which was fantastic. We're very happy to have won these two matches, even if this was done with "boring" results, with both games ending 1-0. Obviously the dressing room was a happy place afterwards, everyone was delighted and the president of the Hungarian Football Federation came in to offer his congratulations. Everybody is delighted.

Ginés Meléndez, Spain coach
I would like to congratulate Hungary, it was an open match but they were able to control most of the game. They have strong, tall players but we still managed to create lots of chances, especially in the second half. There are no more words to say, especially if you go to the dressing room and see an 18-year-old player crying because of the chances he missed. My players have learned a lot from this tournament, and this experience will definitely help them become better players and better people. Our objective with these teams is to develop, educate and train people. All the players showed plenty of camaraderie and friendship afterwards – they were all hugging each other. Our federation should be proud of them. notas_de_prensa_archivo
