LIVERPOOL FC: ON THIS DAY: JULY 18, 2000
Nick Barmby incurred the wrath of the Goodison Park faithful when he opted to swap Everton for Liverpool on this day eight years ago.
/noticias.info/ The diminutive forward was the Blues' club record signing and had been a huge success for the Toffees until he stunned boss Walter Smith and broke Evertonian hearts when he jumped at the chance to join Gerard Houllier's French revolution.
He became the first player to switch directly from the Blues to the Reds since Dave Hickson back in 1959 and rubbed further salt in the wounds of his former employers just a few months later when he netted in a 3-1 Merseyside derby win at Anfield.
In two years with the Reds he scored eight goals in 58 games and played a key role in the club's treble success of 2001. notas_de_prensa_archivo
