LIVERPOOL FC: AURELIO: TRIO CAN AID TITLE BID
Fabio Aurelio is confident the new recruits in the Liverpool squad can finally help bring to an end the club's 18-year wait for the Barclays Premier League crown.
/noticias.info/ The Brazilian full-back has been impressed by what he has seen from the trio of Diego Cavalieri, Philipp Degen and Andrea Dossena and feels that, with the new boys on board and further additions in the pipeline, Rafael Benitez's squad now has the strength to go on and make a sustained challenge for title number 19.
"We know Liverpool have waited far too long to win the Premier League and so that must be our aim when the season gets under way," he told Liverpoolfc.tv.
" It's really important that we make a winning start and with the players we have signed and the possibility of others coming in too, we will be near the top and hopefully we will be there at the end fighting for the title."
The arrival of left-back Dossena has been of particular significance to Aurelio, who accepts he will have to be at his best if he is to win a place in the starting XI ahead of the pacey Italian international.
It is the type of competition he feels is necessary for a club looking to win football's biggest trophies and a challenge that he believes will bring out the best in him.
"Big teams always have players with great talent and at a club like Liverpool you have to have good options for the coach and for the team," he said.
"I hope he proves to be a good signing for us and help us to win things this season. I am happy to fight for my place because I know we are all fighting to reach the same objective.
"That is why we all wish the new lads all the best for a good future with the club. Hopefully they can help us to improve.
"They all seem to be settling in well. They look confident and very happy. We know the season is very long and difficult and we will need a strong squad to compete for trophies."
The Reds preparations for the new season have been buoyed by victories against Tranmere and Lucerne but while Aurelio is happy to continue the winning habit he feels the return of Daniel Agger has been one of the major highlights of the pre-season so far.
"It's great to see him back," he said. "Unfortunately I know all too well how you feel when you have an injury. You are away from the team and go a long time without playing.
"I'm really happy to see him back in action and he is already beginning to play with the same quality that we have seen in the past." notas_de_prensa_archivo
