UNITED: Eagles flying high

Chris Eagles was delighted to cap another first-team opportunity with the equalising goal against Kaizer Chiefs in Cape Town.

/noticias.info/ The 22-year-old midfielder has found his chances limited at United but showed some nice touches in his hour-long run out and headed home Carlos Tevez's superb cross from the right for the Reds' second-half goal.

“I’m over the moon to be back in action and to get another goal is good,” Eagles told MUTV. “But the main thing is to get fitness and sharpness for the season to come.

“It was a good game and I was pleased with my efforts. I had some time against Aberdeen last week and really enjoyed it – I just love playing in the first team.”

The fans in Newlands Stadium created a carnival atmosphere which, added to the game’s competitive edge, made it an enjoyable afternoon’s work.

“It was so loud out there – I could hardly understand John O’Shea at left-back because the fans were blowing their horns! But it was a brilliant atmosphere,” Eagles added.

“[Kaizer Chiefs] are halfway though their season so we expected them to be fit and strong, but it’s good to get a result and for me personally to get 65 minutes under my belt.”

Eagles, who on Friday admitted to having talks with other clubs about a possible move, reiterated his desire to stay at United and push for a first-team place.

He added: “I’ve been here since I was 14 and I have no plans to leave. The manager is the main person I have to please and I respect him for what he has always done for me.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
