PSV: PSV record 5-1 win in second pre-season friendly

/noticias.info/ PSV continued their pre-season preparations with a 5-1 friendly win over amateurs SV Vaassen. Referee Mulder abandoned the game after 75 minutes due to persistent rain. Zonneveld, Väyrynen, Lazovic, Koevermans and Afellay had scored goals when a thunder storm swept across the Sports Park De Kouwenberg.

Danny Koevermans

The fans were enjoying the lovely weather when the friendly was kicked off, but the referee abandoned the game twenty minutes from time due to heavy showers and a further thunderstorm also put paid to any chances of further play. PSV had been reduced to ten men at that stage as Danny Koevermans limped off the pitch with a strained hamstring and no players were left on the bench to replace him. The players that had made a first-half appearance had already taken a shower and watched the game from the stands. SV Vaassen contested every inch of ground and put in a fine display before the break. Mike Zonneveld opened the scoring for PSV after thirteen minutes but Remon Hillebrandt quickly put the hosts on equal terms, taking advantage of a one-on-one with goalkeeper Cássio Ramos.

Half time score: 1-2

Mika Väyrynen, who played in the position of playmaker, gave PSV their second lead on the half hour mark. The ball was not cleared properly and fell the Finn who duly slotted home: 1-2, which was the half time score. PSV extended their lead in the second half. Huub Stevens had brought on Afellay, Alcides, who deputised as captain, Van der Leegte, Van Eijden and goalkeeper Zoet at half time, but strike partners Koevermans/Lazovic and Dzsudzsák also made a second half appearance. Zonneveld, who was played as holding midfielder during the first forty-five minutes, operated as left back and Alcides was played at right back. Afellay was fouled in the area three minutes after the restart and Lazovic converted the resulting penalty. Five minutes later, Koevermans tapped home PSV’s fourth goal of the night and Afellay was on target eighteen minutes from time; 1-5.

VVV-Venlo

PSV knew they would face a tall task as they definitely felt the after-effects of a physically demanding training camp, including a tough Saturday morning training session, in Oisterwijk. Head coach Huub Stevens wants his players to be all over the pitch and move men forward to pile pressure on the opposing team’s defence. He also considered PSV’s second pre-season friendly as the perfect time to experiment with Culina as right back, Lazovic on the right wing and with the goalkeepers Ramos and Zoet between the sticks. The players have the Sunday off and report back for training at De Herdgang training facilities on Monday morning. PSV will be next in action on Wednesday when they make a trip to VVV Venlo to contest the Herman Teeuwen Memorial trophy. They will then jet off to Portugal where their first opponents will be Sporting Lisbon. notas_de_prensa_archivo
