FORMULA 1 – SPYKER: Valencia granted FIA track licence 7/27/2008 7:32 PM
/noticias.info/ Valencia street circuit bosses today received their track homologation from the FIA that will allow the European Grand Prix to run on the track next month.
The dress rehearsal for that event, a national-level Spanish F3 and International GT Series round, went off without any major problems this weekend.
Trident Racing GP2 duo Mike Conway and Ho-Pin Tung became the first drivers to win at the track when they drove a GT3 Dodge Viper to victory in Saturday evening's GT race.
Another race winner was joint British Formula 3 championship leader Jaime Alguersuari, who won the first Spanish F3 race on Sunday morning.
The track was praised by most drivers, although its technical nature and lack of kerbs did come in for some mild criticism.
GP2 racer Pastor Maldonado, who has won multiple races at Monaco, said: "It's not a normal street circuit, it's more like a normal track. It's difficult to learn, very quick in places, but I think they've done an amazing job."
When the track action concluded on Sunday afternoon, track boss Jorge Martinez told autosport.com: "To be honest, I thought we would have more problems, but everything went fine. Our big worry was security and safety, but we have had no problems at all, just minor things.
"But we realise this is one step and that to hold a Formula One race weekend will be another level, so we've got a lot of work still to do."
