GOLF: ASIAN TOUR: SINGH STORMS TO SECOND WIN OF THE YEAR
/noticias.info/ India’s Jeev Milkha Singh claimed his second title of the season when he stormed to a two-shot victory at the Sega Sammy Cup in Japan on Sunday.
The 2006 Asian Tour number one, who triumphed in Austria last month, closed with a blistering six-under-par 66 at the North Country Golf Club to pip overnight leader Sushi Ishigaki by two strokes.
It was Singh’s third career win in Japan which should move him closer to his goal of returning into the world’s top-50. Singh entered the week as the 75th ranked player in the world.
Singh accumulated rounds of 67, 74, 68 and 66 for a 275 winning total, and earned 30 million yen (approximately US$277,000).
Fijian Dinesh Chand, who is a member of the Asian Tour, carded a final round 73 to slip from his overnight second place to tied ninth with a 281 total while New Zealander Eddie Lee enjoyed a tied 14th finish with rounds of 70, 73, 70 and 70 for a 283 aggregate.
American Han Lee put together rounds of 67, 71, 75 and 71 to finish tied 20th on 284.
In the Canadian Open, Korea’s Charlie Wi, a multiple winner on the Asian Tour, finished equal 14th with rounds of 69, 69, 67 and 70 for a 275 total. Compatriot Kevin Na, winner of the Volvo Masters of Asia in 2002, was tied eighth on 273, six shots behind winner Chez Reavie.
Yang Yong-eun, playing in his rookie season on the US PGA Tour, was tied 37th on 280.
In the Russian Open, India’s Shiv Kapur finished in a share of 25th place with rounds of 67, 70, 69 and 71, 10 strokes behind winner Mikael Lundberg. Young Scotsman Lloyd Saltman, a rookie on the Asian Tour, finished equal sixth after shooting scores of 69, 70, 66 and 68. notas_de_prensa_archivo
