GOLF: ASIAN TOUR: BROWN GETS HIS CHANCE AT FIRESTONE
/noticias.info/ After a futile wait as the first reserve at the British Open two weeks ago, New Zealand’s Mark Brown will jump straight back into action at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club this week.
Brown, the current leader of the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit, will be part of an Asian Tour contingent which includes Thailand’s Prayad Marksaeng and Australian Scott Strange who will chase for a slice of the US$8 million on offer in the third and final World Golf Championships event this season.
The Kiwi was a frustrated man at Royal Birkdale as he waited in vain for a chance to compete in the British Open. To add salt into his wound, Scotland’s Sandy Lyle and Rich Beem of the US walked off from their first round following poor weather.
The talented Brown has enjoyed a strong 2008 season where he won back-to-back titles at the SAIL Open and Johnnie Walker Classic, both held in India, in February.
Joining Brown at Firestone will be two-time Asian Tour winner, Strange. He earned his place in the elite field following his victory in the Wales Open earlier this season.
Prayad will also be aiming for a better showing on the big stage after missing the halfway cut at the British Open by one shot when he ended his second round with a double bogey and bogey in two of his last three holes.
The Thai veteran earned his place in the Bridgestone event following his emotional victory at the Volvo Masters of Asia on home soil last season. This year, he has won twice in Japan but he’ll be eager to make his mark in the US where he hopes to compete on the PGA Tour.
Prayad will remain in the US for the next two weeks as he has also been exempted to play in the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills for the year’s fourth and final major. notas_de_prensa_archivo
