EVERTON FC: YAK RELIEVED FOR JOE
/noticias.info/ Yakubu has revealed his relief at the safe release of team-mate Joseph Yobo’s brother.
Norum Yobo was returned to his family on 17 July, 12 days after he was kidnapped in the Nigerian city of Port Harcourt.
Speaking exclusively to evertonTV Yakubu echoed Yobo’s offer of thanks to the Club, the manager, the players and the supporters in what was a traumatic time.
“It’s good news [about Norum],” he said. “It’s good news for the family. It was very difficult over in Nigeria. He lost his brother for around 12 days and it’s a good feelings for him to have him back.
“Thank you for the support of the club and everybody. It will be good to have him back.”
Having scored over 20 goals in his debut season for the Toffees, the Yak took a well-earned break over the summer.
He returns to the squad a married man, having used his time off to tie the knot with long-term partner Yvonne Ikhana.
“I had a good summer,” he said. “I played a few games in Nigeria and got married too.
“The big day was good and I have to thank those who were there for me and supported me. Getting married was good and I’m happy, settled and looking forward to the new season
Wednesday’s friendly against Chicago Fire could see Yakubu make his first start of pre-season. The striker played 10 minutes as a substitute in Friday’s 1-1 draw at Nottingham Forest and says he’s already feeling the benefits of being back in training.
“It’s a good feeling to come out with the team to a different country. To train and to get fit with the players is great and we’re happy to train together and to get to know each other more.
“To get on and play 10 minutes was good. We’ve been training hard and it feels good because I’m getting fitter and fitter. notas_de_prensa_archivo
