GOLF: PGA: Haynes In Bullish Mood Ahead Of Welsh Open
/noticias.info/ Lingfield Park's Glen Haynes is confident he can win the Ryder Cup Wales 2010 Welsh Open PGA Championship at Royal St David's, which begins on August 5.
The Australian-born professional has enjoyed another superb season and feels his form is good enough to clinch the trophy at the end of the three-day tournament.
Last year Haynes won the Surrey Assistants' Championship and the PGA South Region Matchplay Championship, and this season has been equally impressive.
"Yeah, I think I can win it," he said. "I've been playing really well and I've played Royal St David's a few times before so I'm pretty confident and I'm looking forward to it.
"I've played in a lot of competitions this year. I played the Surrey Championship at finished in the top 10 and I've had three pro-am wins this season - it's been going well.
"There have been a few Order of Merit events I've played in too. At the moment I'm 20th in the south region Order of Merit which is not as high as I would have liked but it's OK."
Haynes is not daunted by the 300-mile trip up to the north Wales coast, claiming it does not compare to the distances he used to travel in his homeland before emigrating to England in 1999.
"I don't mind that it's such a long way away, I'm a good traveller," he said.
"Being from Australia and travelling huge distances there, the trip to Wales doesn't seem that long."
And Haynes is already putting in the preparation to ensure he is a serious contender at the Welsh Open.
"With Royal St David's being a links course, I've been playing a few links courses around this area and practising a fair bit," he added.
"I wanted to get a better feel for links golf and get my bump and run game going."
Rob Holt, Chief Executive of Ryder Cup Wales, said: "Ryder Cup Wales are delighted to be supporting this event in North Wales, the second of our three PGA events in the area with the Young PGA Professional Championship in Anglesey earlier in the year. Our partnership with the PGA allows us to showcase some of the real gems that Wales has to offer and Royal St David's is a wonderful example of this with its championship links course set against a stunning backdrop." notas_de_prensa_archivo
