EVERTON FC: HOWARD: WE CAN SUCCEED
/noticias.info/ Tim Howard says Everton’s players are mentally prepared to succeed this season.
The American goalkeeper, who is back in training after an extended summer absence, is confident the Toffees can reproduce the form which propelled them to fifth place in the Premier League last term.
Speaking to a packed press conference at the University of Chicago Illinois, Howard said: Being in the UEFA Cup last season we know what it takes to play on a Thursday and then recover to play at the weekend,” said Howard. “Mentally, I think everybody is prepared for that.
“I think the biggest thing last year for us was our consistency. When you look at it, week in, week out, the top four teams are getting results - and I think for long periods of the season we did that.
“If you look at it, Everton have done well in recent seasons and all we did was consolidate European football. [Finishing fifth] was no surprise to us, but maybe to other people.”
Everton’s progress under manager David Moyes was one of the key factors in Howard’s decision to sign a permanent deal with the Club in February last year.
The goalkeeper, who originally joined on loan from Manchester United in May 2006, has no regrets, suggesting he has found a home at Goodison.
“When I left United I wanted to make sure I’d go to a place where I’d be happy long term. I’m not the type of person who wants to go to four or five different clubs.
“I’m happy here and I knew I would be from meeting the manager on the first day. Everything he told me about the Club has come true and, in terms of personalities, this is the best group of guys I’ve ever played with.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
