EVERTON FC: ACADEMY US CUP SUCCESS
/noticias.info/ Everton’s Academy team have stolen the headlines in the inaugural Everton Cup USA.
This weekend, on the outskirts of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania, the international youth football tournament was held under Everton’s name.
The Everton Cup USA 2008 featured more than 50 teams between the ages of nine and 15 doing battle to be crowned winners of their age groups.
Everton’s Academy was represented by the current under 10 squad led by Academy coach Michael O’Brien in the Elite Supergroup.
The young blues showed their potential by running out clear winners in their age range beating FC Crusa and FC Revolution by 8-1 scorelines before defeating VSA Heat 9-1 and completing the clean sweep with a 12-0 victory over local side Spirit Utd.
The performances drew envious eyes from many of the US clubs who were exposed to a level of football they had not seen before.
Head Coach Michael O’Brien was quick to praise the side. He said: “The boys only arrived on Wednesday and got right in to the groove, playing great passing football and scoring goals from all angles.
“It was also great to expose the boys to a different environment both on and off the pitch and we are delighted that the handled this so well”
With the club making such great strides in youth football in the US over the last 12 months through the online academy – EvertonWay.com, the club in conjunction with local tournament organisers USTC and FC Revolution pieced together a 3 day event which saw both boys and girls compete for the titles across a number of age ranges. .
International Development Manager David Cook explained: “At Everton, we have been making waves in US Soccer due to our unique approach to working in grassroots soccer with local clubs and associations.
“As the only club to incorporate an online coaching website designed to share some of our knowledge, we have established twelve strong partnerships with grassroots clubs across the country and they too share our passion for developing young players.
“We want to help them get to the next level and offer further opportunity for young players and coaches.
“Here in East Pennsylvania, our EvertonWay partner FC Revolution has provided fantastic support in getting the tournament up and running and we look forward to establishing this event on the US youth soccer calendar for many years to come.
“It’s a great meeting place for our EvertonWay partner clubs and with the performance of our boys this year, I think many clubs were able to see standards which can be obtained by following the program.
“Of course, this tournament also helps Everton establish the club further internationally and helps build the brand in a developing football market like the US.
“Things are continuing to move forward off the field for the club internationally in this unique way, We have several similar relationships developing up in Canada along with our current projects in China, India and Thailand with Chang.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
