EVERTON FC: LADIES' SHIELD CHALLENGE

/noticias.info/ Toni Duggan says Everton Ladies are aiming to build on last season’s success.

And that starts with winning the forthcoming FA Women’s Community Shield.

The Blues take on arch-rivals Arsenal on Thursday 8 August at Macclesfield’s Moss Rose ground for the campaign curtain raiser.

Duggan, an England under 19 international, admits confidence is high in Mo Marley’s squad following the League Cup triumph.

“I think it’s really important that we build on last season’s success and after pushing Arsenal so close in the title race, if we win the Community Shield, it could lead to a very interesting season,” she said.

“Winning the League Cup gave everyone at the Club a massive boost and for me, personally, coming off the bench in that final was just amazing. Everyone is full of confidence and now we’re all looking forward to the new season.”

It has been a summer of transition at the Emirates with the shock departures of Lianne Sanderson and Anita Asante to Chelsea.

Duggan believes such changes could end Arsenal’s Premier League dominance.

“We know Arsenal have lost a couple of big players this summer and if we beat them in the Community Shield, who knows what will happen when the League campaign begins?” she continued.

”It’s a really big match and it will mean so much more than just a pre-season friendly; there’s a big trophy at stake.

“We’ve definitely got the potential and hopefully this will be the year we finally overhaul them. We’re going to go out and give it our best shot in every competition.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
